Wyatt Turns 4

Well here we are.  My baby turns 4 today.  I am going to miss him answering that he is three and a half years old. I tried to set aside a little time for some pictures to represent who he was as a three and a half year old. 

His favorite toys are trucks, trains, planes (Dusty and all of his people), puzzles, iPad, and LEGOS.  In the past few months, he has really gotten creative at free styling his legos.  He probably plays his Duplos a bit more than his big kid legos, but he is able to enjoy both.  He will go outside with one or two of his construction trucks or tractors and dig non stop for a good 30 minutes to an hour.  We have a good sized hole in our front yard.  Good thing it is a rental. ;)  The sand box is still a big hit too. 

He likes to watch Jake and the Never Land Pirates on Netflix. He likes to watch tractor, construction, and Lego videos on YouTube.  He loves to read his Bible book and a book about sharks at the moment. His book selections change every week. 

He loves to eat granola bars, ice cream, cheese, Jello, and peanut butter samich. I ran out of thoughts and asked him what his faves are.  "chick fil a, tacos, oranges".

He is considerate, kind to his sister, and listens most of the time. If he is not being a good listener, that pretty much means he needs more sleep. He has entered the questions phase...including how do babies come out of your belly. He loves school. He is still shy. He doesn't keep his boohind in the chair at meals. He eats slow. He naps every 2 or 3 days for an hour or two. He rides his bike with training wheels.

He just recently got some pretty good dance moves.  His favorite song is uptown funk. He really enjoys swimming now (with a life jacket). I would love to put him in swim lessons. Or gymnastics.

He always asks me if I need a friend..in the kitchen, while I am working, in the bathroom.  There is no other answer, so yes I need a friend. When I am not home for bedtime, he wants me to come in and give him a kiss after he is asleep.  He always asks me the next morning. Sometimes I forget to do it and I feel like a horrible person lying and saying I did come to kiss you last night. 

I don't know what to expect from 4! 4 times the fun?

Eating
3 meals a day, 2 snacks a day.
Favorite foods are macaroni, ice cream, M&Ms, and avocados.
Still not a fan of sandwiches but will eat almost anything in taco form.
Loves breakfast meats (bacon, sausage, pigs in the blanket) and scrambled eggs.
Prefers his veggies in raw form.
Likes almost all fruits.
Still a yogurt and smoothie fan.
Pasta and pizza are usually a winner.
We finally eat cereal with milk like a big boy

Sleep
8:30 PM to 7:00 AM and a nap between 12:30 PM and 2:30ish PM.
He is starting to get a bit more manipulative at bedtime.  One more book.  I need to go potty. Stand up and ask for "mama".
His head still never stays on one end of the bed so I don't think he will EVER use a blanket or pillow.
He gets to choose "mommy books" or "daddy books" every night.  The lucky winner reads 2 books and puts him down for the night. He might have to get "daddy books" alot more coming soon. 
Funniest thing to me is the fact that he still sleeps better if he goes to bed fully rested versus tired.  Missing a nap or sleep interruption can throw off our good sleeping for several days. 

Skillz
Mostly potty trained before 2 years old.  All credit to him and not me.
Able to request his shows by name and episode. Yup, I have created a Netflix Instant Play monster. 
Independent play...I can cook, work, clean more than I ever would have believed while he plays toys.
Vocabulary. My little boy is a talker and knows more words than I thought, but luckily for his future teachers he is a little shy too.
Wyatt is my milestone man.  If the book says he should be doing this at a certain month, Wyatt will do it 3 months ahead of time.  This includes cutting teeth, walking, potty training etc.  I wish my awesome parenting could take the credit, but I think it is just personality type.  I will get what I am due for with this baby girl I am sure.

Dislikes
"Too many bugs".  There are so many mosquitoes in our town that we can't play outside frequently even with bug spray.  You can stand at the door or window and watch herds of skeeters try to come in your house.
Taking a break from playing toys to go potty.
When his clothes get wet from playing with water or eating something like watermelon.
Only taking vitamins at breakfast. He wants them every meal. Candy gummies baby.
Swimming in a big pool.  He doesn't like that he can't control it or someone has to hold him.

Likes
Preschool (so far), but he does cry for a minute or so at drop off sometimes.
Pushing mowers, airplanes, tricycles down the sidewalk to the mailbox and to see the cows.
Airplanes, tractors, trucks, trains...such a boy.
Riding on the bike with Daddy.
Visiting all of our families.
Playing toys.  The most requested item of me is to "play toys".  He just wants a friend.
Smelling spices and candles.  We have to smell the candle section all the time at the store.
Splashing at the beach, splash pad, or baby pool.

It is official.  I can no longer post monthly update posts because he is too grown up.  I can no longer respond in months when somebody asks me his age.

To celebrate the big day, we are going to his 2 year checkup appointment (with shots) and then he gets to go to my OB appointment (with exam).  What a lucky guy.  What a mean mom.  I am hoping we can get in a good ice cream break somewhere in there and our weekend of fun with families makes up for this.

Happy birthday my baby Wyatt.  You are so much more fun than I ever could have imagined when you were 3 months old.  Even though I count down the minutes until Daddy comes home, I love being home with you and being your best buddy! I also love how cuddly you are as a toddler even though you weren't a snuggle bug baby. 

One, Three, Six!

Wyatt has been soaking up the skills. He can now count to six before sliding down the slides...."one, three, six"!  I am pretty sure he will be able to count to 10 by the end of the week.  Maybe if I make him stop watching Thomas the Train and focus?

He doesn't really drink much milk anymore.  He only drinks "mommy's drink" or "mommy's water".  If I fixed him his own mommy's water that would not be near as fun. 

My potty training book says Wyatt is ready and his personality type benefits from intensive training sessions (I hope I am not reading my personality type into him)!  I am giving it a try for 3 days or so to see if he is REALLY ready.  Wyatt made his toughest decision so far in life...Disney Airplane undies.  He really struggled to pick just one...Thomas, no McQueen, no Elmo...fine Airplanes! The book says to keep them nudie or in their undies except during nap or bed time.  You also are not really allowed to leave the house during this transition time and put a diaper on them.  I might bend the rules a bit because I don't wanna go stir.  Anyways, we are playing mostly on the tile floor and outside.  Wyatt is having the best time ever because he gets constant attention from his mom instead of self development time.  Ha ha! Oh, and lots of juice and mommy's drink.  At the end of day 1, he did run to a potty after peeing on the concrete outside.  I call that some progress but am planning to fail this attempt at training to keep my expectations low. 

The best thing ever happened to us.  Wyatt can fall asleep in a car and I can take him inside and he will lay down in his bed and continue his nap.   In our younger days, a 2 second snooze could ruin a whole day of napping.  I celebrated this by meeting some local moms for lunch in a town about 45 mins away and making it home for a work phone call by 1:30 with a sleeping kid.  FREEEDOM!!

We talk about what Wyatt wants to eat now...or what he wants to do.  Anytime I ask him what he wants to eat, he answers "macawoni".  I tell him he can't have macawoni for breakfast.  Sometimes he tells me he wants to eat lunch.  "If I can't have macawoni for breakfast I will ask for lunch...so I can have macawoni".   When I ask him what he wants to do today, he says go to the bounce house.  I know what his favorite activity is.  Communicating...so wonderful!

Fish Friday people...Shrimp n Grits people...that is if cooking aligns with pottying and airplane undies. 

I just heard a verse of "allll thruuu da town" on the baby monitor so my bus has risen.  Time to go sit on the poddy.  Enjoy your Friday!

Wyatt - 20 Months

Stats
20 months old
Around 21 lbs

Clothes size 18 month

Eating
3 meals a day, 2 snacks a day.
Loves milk, water, and an occasional jooce (has to be in the box).
Will eat any kind of pasta (red, green, butter, macaroni)
Only likes dark meat chicken
Eats endless amounts of cherry tomatoes, blueberries, cheese, yogurt
Beans and rice are STILL always a winner
Peanuts and grapes are his new favorite snack...its like PB&J without bread.

Sleep
8:30 PM to 7:00 AM and a nap between 12:00 PM and 2:30ish PM.
He takes a really long time to fall asleep but has a routine.  It goes something like..."night night toys, night night books, night night puppy, night night bear, night night loader, night night tractor.  Big tractor.   Green tractor.  Dirty diaper (always a little scary to hear but he just talks about it). Blue diaper."  A series of bed angels.  A series of stick feet through crib slats.  Rotate 180.  Stick feet through other side of crib slats.  "Night night Thomas. Night night choo choo." Roll over onto tummy...zzzzz. 

Skillz
Throwing a ball
Talking pretty good...yah, I know, I have nothing to compare to.
Helping...sweep, put clothes in dryer, stir, put trash in trash, put drink in fridge and close door.
Steering..he is pretty durn good steering his "bike" around.
Buckling his own car seat and high chair buckle...just hoping he doesn't learn the unbuckle part.
Leaving mama behind at the gym, playground, wherever...no separation anxiety right now.
Remembering....I say you can watch tractor videos when daddy comes home.  When nap is over...Daddy? At work.  Tractors? When Daddy comes home.  Do that?  Yes, when Daddy comes home. The second Daddy walks in the door.  "DO THAT"  "TWACTORS!!"

Dislikes
Holding my hand when crossing the road.
Me trying to brush my teeth, fix my hair, or get dressed. 
When I ignore his request...he has learned to get in my face and repeat the command. Or say it louder.  Or grab my mouth.  Twactors, TWACTORS, TWACTORS LADY!!!!!

Likes
Going on walks to check the mail, see the cows, and pick dewberries.  He could eat unlimited amount of dewberries but I am scared of poison ivy.
Saying "wawa".  He says the word wawa about 20 times a day.  Maybe it is his word for something he doesn't know.  Drives me crazy because I can't figure it out. 
Wearing his light up sandals and his McQueen slippers.
Giving hugs and kisses....to me especially, but also to his trucks, tractors, snacks...anything.
Having his friend Bear do everything he does.  And now Puppy and Loader too.  I am scared for him to see any more stuffed animals.  There are only so many times I can pretend feed each "friend" per meal. 
Bike rides...loves it.  Not sure what to do once my belly gets too big.
Playing with all of his cousins.
Riding tractors. Sitting on tractors. Watching tractors. Talking about tractors.

Playing in the silverware drawer while I am trying to cook.  Licking the silverware or stirring something dirty and then putting it back into the drawer.  I stopped trying to wash everything. Beware if you come over to my place.

Too Busy

Howdy.  I have been too busy being lazy to write much these days. 

The House:
Most of the boxes are unpacked (thanks Mom). Most of the rooms are organized (thanks Kathleen). Most of the paintings / decor are on the wall (thanks Hunter).   What have I done?  Hmmm..not much comes to mind.

The Kid:
He is sleeping an hour later than usual for right now so we are now 2 hours off schedule thanks to the time change.  This one nap thing is working out a-ok as long as we have an activity in the morning (park, walk, story-time).  Wyatt had his 18 month appointment today, and whadda ya know, he is still tiny.  BUT he is growing at a good rate and he didn't cry once with his new doctor. I think we both liked him.  He is acting so sweet and grown up that I spend a good part of my day watching my sweet boy and feeling *whelmed by his sweetness and grown upness.  He loves to give hugs and kisses right now.  Almost every bo-bo can be fixed by a little kiss from mama.  I am trying not to let that power go to my head.  At bed time he pushes my head down so that it touches his head for a little bit of rocking chair quality time.  Where did this cuddly boy come from? I don't know.  Where did this sentimental mama come from?  I dunno that either. 

The Fitness:
I did 10 push ups yesterday.  Sometimes Wyatt and I go out for a stroller wog.  On to the next topic.

The Food:
As usual, I have been using PW to inspire me. Here are a few PW recents that really hit the spot.
Salad Tacos - Crunchy shells dressed with a mixture of ranch dip and salsa. I felt like a kid again.
Avocado Egg Salad - Wyatt chowed down on a sandwich with this in it
Petite Vanilla Scones - I made these for a baby shower and they were a big hit.  Pretty easy too!

Veggies in my fridge to use this week...swiss chard, spinach, collard greens, and snap peas. 

The Parenting:
The sandbox that Lisa gave us has allowed me to spend the least amount of time parenting this week.  Ha ha.  Lots of alone time in that sandbox. This will pass, but it shore is nice.

16 Months

Eating
Eats almost everything we do except I have to exclude jalapenos and hot sauce from all of his portions!  When can I start introducing this?
Loves blueberries, bananas, eggs, avocados, cheese, rice, pickles, olives, chicken nuggets, any kind of pasta.  He finally eats tacos and quesadillas.  Yes!  We still snack on cheerios. Do they ever get too old for this?


Sleep
Two naps a day around an hour and a half. Still not sure we will ever make it to 1 nap, and I am ok with this.
Same routine....we read about 3 books and then hum twinkle twinkle before laying down.
Bedtime is from 7:30 PM to 6:30 AM.

Skills
Sliding down the slides by his big boy self.
Picking up on routines...when Daddy comes home he points at the tv and sings because he knows Hunter is going to turn on the music.
He knows the signs for we are about to leave...bags packing, shoes on, drinks refilled because he says bye bye without me telling him we are leaving.
Picking up on words...I don't know if he knows what they mean, but he is a good repeater.

Dislikes
Doing things he doesn't want to. As of last week, we hit tantrum city.  Every diaper change, car seat buckle, stroller strap down, clothes change is a physical brawl.  Phase, please leave us soon!
Food on his tray that he doesn't want to eat.  It MUST go on the floor.
Me picking out his clothes.  Most of the clothes he picks out have brmm brmms on them.

Peace Out 2012

Merry Really Late Christmas!  We had a fabulous time in Houston celebrating with both sides of the family.  Wyatt is going to be so bored without fun nephews to play with and aunties, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas to entertain him.  I will post pictures of the trip soon. (don't I always say that and then never post pics?)

We were "that kid" on the flight home yesterday.  I was sweating the whole time.  Flight delay, bad morning nap, won't nap on a plane, ran out of tricks, too stuffed on kiddie snacks, chapped face from outdoor play in the cold wind.  Funny...nobody told me he was cute yesterday. ;)  Also, right as the descending announcement was made "that kid" filled up his diaper. Ha ha...we survived.  Our airport shuttle driver entertained us by playing the harmonica on the way to our truck.  He also randomly met his cousin on the shuttle bus.  There was calling of mom back home and lots of shouting in non English.  Small world. 

Today Wyatt has the sniffles, but at least we are home to deal with any potential sickies. I have started the unpacking and laundry as part of vacation detoxification.  I have the itch to organize and clean!  Must be my mind telling me it's time to prepare for 2013.  Can't believe the year is almost over.  We have lived in Florida for a little less than a year now. My baby is all grown up!  Hunter and I are the same (but older and less cool).

More Fun Every Month

Even though the days are long as a stay at home / work from home mom, every month gets to be a little bit more fun.  Wyatt makes me laugh every day!  I am sure our fun level will have to plateau at some age (tantrums, pushing the limits), but for now I am going to enjoy this.  We even communicate...almost.

Wyatt climbing into the stroller while saying "wok" means he wants to go on a walk.  Easy one.  After we went to the park yesterday, he climbed right into the stroller.  I guess he didn't get enough time outside.

Speaking of parks, "whee" means I want to go down the slide.  This is also an easy one.  He gets confused by the ups and downs. He tries to climb up the slide, but doesn't understand why that isn't whee. I have to park him in front of the steps.  I usually climb up the steps and slide down the slide with him.  He is tooo little and there are big gaps on these toys (said the first time over protective mom). 

Last week, he wanted to climb up the steps on the playground while dragging a stick that was about 6 feet long.  He was so frustrated because he couldn't do both and went ballistic when I tried to explain that he couldn't take the stick while climbing and I took it away.  I am not ready to parent this type of stuff.  It requires more skills.

"Woof!"  Most of the time woof means dog, but sometime woof means shoes.  Not really sure how these got to be the same.

If I am packing up my diaper bag, putting on shoes, or I say "talk to you soon" on the phone he knows to say Bye Bye. 

The most exciting (to me) form of communication....when he is fussing or pointing at something that I don't understand, I can say show me and he will walk over to what he wants and points.  Most of the time, the fridge means drink, the door means outside, etc.  This is so much better than the guessing game we play in the earlier months....clean diaper, just ate, just napped...still crying? I don't knooooowwwww what to dooooo. 

 We went through a few rough nights and bad naps last week.  I assume this happened because of two first molar teeth poking through on the bottom.  The teeth haven't made it all the way through yet, but my good sleeper has returned.  My good sleeper is currently in the mood to play by himself for extended periods of time.  Whaaaa?!?!?  I am not going to complain, but surely this awesomeness won't last for long.   This week he spent 30 minutes unloading and reloading some dresser drawers. He has also spent over an hour stuffing things into a box.

11 Months

11 months old

Eating
Eating three meals a day and two snacks a day.
Nursing 4 times a day. After his 1 year checkup where I hope he gained plenty of lbs I plan to start the weaning. 
Loves spaghetti, beans, rice, yogurt, cheese, applesauce, oatmeal, blueberries, bananas, chick fil a grilled chicken nuggets.
He eats almost everything we try and is eating huge portions right now.  It blows my mind.
I can't wait until he can have eggs.
He had his first fast food meal at ChickFilA.  He ate a 4 piece grilled chicken nugget and the applesauce pouch.  Finished it.  Wanted more.  I had to share and supplement with cheerios.
Not allergic to peanuts...I accidentally let him eat some peanut butter.  Ooopsie. 

Sleep
Two naps a day around an hour and a half. I have no clue how we will ever make it to one nap.  He can't make it past 9:30 AM.
Same routine....we read about 3 books and then hum twinkle twinkle before laying down.
Bedtime is from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Wakes up around 5:00 AM every morning right now and goes back to sleep after nursing.

Skillz
Clapping when I start to sing "If you are happy and you know it"
Waving and saying bye bye about 3 minutes after the person has left.
Pointing
Using a spoon...I can load it with sticky stuff like yogurt, applesauce, etc and the food will make it into his mouth about 80% of the time.
Climbing...me, furniture, strollers.  How quick you learn that things can give you a boost.
Walking...he can go pretty far without falling on his bum and rarely crawls now.
When he sees his monkey, he makes the monkey sounds.  When you make the brrmmm sounds, he gets his truck.
Words he recognizes...books, monkey, truck, painting, daddy, mommy, ball,fish. 

Dislikes
Bibs
Printers...when the paper shoots out after the print he fears for his life.
Weedeaters.
When I barricade him out of the kitchen for his safety.
Church nursery...this can sometimes go in the Likes category.  He cries when I drop him off but they say he is happy for the majority of the time.  When I go to pick him up, he is usually being walked around the church by somebody to keep him happy.  I always wonder if my kid is the pest, but today I saw the lady give him a kiss on his little head while she was pacing him around so I know she doesn't mind.

Dogs...they crack him up.  He pretends they are chasing him and runs around like its a two sided game.

10 Months

We survived another day around here AND Wyatt turned 10 months old yesterday.  We went to Target with a goal of distracting Wyatt from his mood.  It worked! He had a great time so we stayed there an hour and a half. I had a lofty goal of spending $0 but after an hour and a half, Target reeled me in.  I spent $15.  Of course, I bought only the essentials....bananas, cilantro, ginger, bug spray, and some trucks for Wyatt that were on clearance for $1ish. 

A quick summary of Wyatt's new 10 month tricks:

• He is waving
• He claps
• He looks at Mama/Dada when you ask where one of us is
• He points (I want more of that, show me that painting)
• He is fascinated with anything hung on the wall
• He walks (kind of).  He goes in 5 step bursts.
• He makes a funny face and kind of whistles to get my attention

9 Months

Stats
9 months old
16 lbs&13oz - He did not gain as much as he probably should have this checkup. The Dr. isn't worried but asked us to really work on packing on the pounds.  I am of course over analyzing everything and feeling like a bad momsy. He seems to eat pretty good...3 meals a day. Am I exercising too much and messing up my milk supply? Am I not being patient enough at meal times?

Clothes size 6, 9, and 12 month. Going to pack up the 6 month clothes because they are starting to get too hard to button

Eating

Nursing 4 times a day and sometimes 1 additional time at night

Pointing at things in the books that we read him.

Standing by himself when he is really distracted with a toy.  He has even taken a few steps when the toy is really amazing.  I still think he is far from walking.
Making a special sound when he is trying to get attention from his dad.  He saves this sound for Hunter only. 
Wyatt has a mean pincher grab. Excellent for eating, but even better for picking up the tiniest grodies off of the floor and shoving them into his mouth.

We moved to three meals a day. This means we poop more times a day.  Hoping this is a temporary adjustment phase.
We are still nursing, maybe 5 to 6 times a day

No longer a vegetarian since sampling turkey
Working on foods with texture.  Had our first non pureed food, quinoa with grated zucchini and cumin.  He likes it aight but gags on it every other bite or so

Sleep
Two to three naps a day around an hour and a half. We are attempting to drop the third nap but this only happens when the first two naps were good and we go to bed earlier
Bedtime is from 7:30 PM to 6:00 AM. He usually wakes up once a night but this is getting closer and closer to all night.  I got a 5:00 AM wake up today.

Being a perfect baby when we are out in public and saving his bad side for mommy
Pulling up on everything (stroller, toilet, couch, coffee table, crib, toys, mommy leg, daddy leg, any toy that gives him a boost)
Standing - the only way to play. I started putting his toys on couches and coffee tables so he can play while standing
Escaping at diaper time.  Little dude is fast! I have to have a new toy almost every time to keep him laying on his back.
Drinking from a straw. He figured it out on his first try
Staying on the magical blanket boundary when we sit outside
Smearing baby food into his eyes at every single meal. Hurts so good!

Stroller rides. I think I just realized that the stroller isn't so bad.  I am usually putting him into the stroller when he is already grumpy.  The past few days have been happy stroller times.
Waking up from naps and bedtime.  Babies his age are supposed to wake up happy but he has missed this milestone.  He needs a minute or two of mommy time before he can put a smile on.
Monday night softball games.  Don't mess with my schedule Mom!
Church nursery

Leaving the house. I am not making this up. I think he gets bored at home too.
Pears.  He doesn't like many fruits, but this is the one!
Being in the Baby Ergo backpack
When Daddy comes home. He saves his biggest smiles for this moment.  I am a little jelly.
New toys. He gets so bored of the usuals.
FaceTiming / Skyping with aunties, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.  It puts him in a better mood.  I wish I knew if it was because of the shiny phone or the relatives. :) 
If you're happy and you know it clap your hands.  He hearts this song.
Pretend eating his hands, feet, back.  This is when you get the really good belly laughs.
Car seat....hurrah!
