Too Busy

Howdy.  I have been too busy being lazy to write much these days.

The House:
Most of the boxes are unpacked (thanks Mom). Most of the rooms are organized (thanks Kathleen). Most of the paintings / decor are on the wall (thanks Hunter).   What have I done?  Hmmm..not much comes to mind.

The Kid:
He is sleeping an hour later than usual for right now so we are now 2 hours off schedule thanks to the time change.  This one nap thing is working out a-ok as long as we have an activity in the morning (park, walk, story-time).  Wyatt had his 18 month appointment today, and whadda ya know, he is still tiny.  BUT he is growing at a good rate and he didn't cry once with his new doctor. I think we both liked him.  He is acting so sweet and grown up that I spend a good part of my day watching my sweet boy and feeling *whelmed by his sweetness and grown upness.  He loves to give hugs and kisses right now.  Almost every bo-bo can be fixed by a little kiss from mama.  I am trying not to let that power go to my head.  At bed time he pushes my head down so that it touches his head for a little bit of rocking chair quality time.  Where did this cuddly boy come from? I don't know.  Where did this sentimental mama come from?  I dunno that either.

The Fitness:
I did 10 push ups yesterday.  Sometimes Wyatt and I go out for a stroller wog.  On to the next topic.

The Food:
As usual, I have been using PW to inspire me. Here are a few PW recents that really hit the spot.
Salad Tacos - Crunchy shells dressed with a mixture of ranch dip and salsa. I felt like a kid again.
Avocado Egg Salad - Wyatt chowed down on a sandwich with this in it
Petite Vanilla Scones - I made these for a baby shower and they were a big hit.  Pretty easy too!

Veggies in my fridge to use this week...swiss chard, spinach, collard greens, and snap peas.

The Parenting:
The sandbox that Lisa gave us has allowed me to spend the least amount of time parenting this week.  Ha ha.  Lots of alone time in that sandbox. This will pass, but it shore is nice.

Yah, he is wearing his jammies here.

Funny

Funny that I have my alarm set for 6:30 every morning so I can wake up and be productive before the W wakes up, but I have never actually been able to sleep that late. It becomes a chore to turn off the alarm every day, but I refyooose to change the time.  Our rooster has been crowing at 4:30 AM. This beautiful hour in the morning is sponsored by the durn virus that prevents W from eating more than a few bites of anything.

Also funny that 16 months of sorta decent parenting can melt away with 5 days of please drink anything and please watch more tv you are so sick.  W begs me to watch Elmo and Mighty Machines all day.  Eventually I give in and turn it on, but then he asks me to switch it to the other one within 5 minutes..and then to the other one...and then to the other one - Lala, no Brmm Brmm, no Lala, no Brrm Brmm.   We need to cut the TV cold turkey even if it causes the shakes (for me).  Also, he begs for juice which means anything in a juice box that he can make a huge mess with.  Fancy cups can't compete with the magic of the cardboard box with straw insert.

Funny that the highlight of my morning is picking out what scent will be in our house.  Today is Scentsy Two Harbors.  I liiiike.

Not funny that I am already having anxiety about moving and changing our routine and meeting new people and and and 20ish hours in the car with a 16 month old.  I like change as much as your average 84 year old.

Tonight some food trucks are coming to our hood so that means no dinner cooking for me!  Should be fun.  Also, W and I ran to the liquor store yesterday...seriously, we took our huge jogging stroller inside the store lined with delicate breakable expensive bottles. Worth it, yes. Those spicy grapefruit margaritas are even better than you would think!

Blogging In My Head

Sorry for my blog neglect.  I kept writing posts in my head if it makes you feel any better.

I mentally wrote a post about not being the favorite parent (500 dadas for every 1 mama).  Sometimes I feel like Wyatt just thinks of me as "lady who is always around".   Hey lady! Get me out of this crib and entertain me until my precious comes home from work.  Hey lady! Feed me a snack.

I also mentally wrote a post about having a sore throat and pushing my pretend 10K race to this week.  I am hoping to do that tomorrow so I can see my final heart rate improvement numbers.

So what did we do this weekend?  I am glad you asked.

Wyatt and I were in a local parade.

Doesn't he look excited?

We did a lot of this before the parade so he was pretty happy to sit still for the 1.5 mile parade.

Ruuuuuuunnnnnnnn!

Did I do ok on his outfit?  Not sure if it's too clashy clashy.

What We Have Been Up To

Somehow I got so wrapped up with work and life that I forgot to blog! Ok, not really.  I actually thought about it everyday but could not find the right motivation.

So what did you miss?

Wyatt and I made strides against breast cancer with a few other people from the mom's club on Saturday.

Wyatt and I are on the right

We fit in church, trip to Orlando, trip to Costco, and dining at Cocina 214 on Sunday.  The owners of the restaurant developed the idea because "two of the owners from Texas missed the Tex-Mex and Mexican food they had grown up eating".  Sounds familiar!  The food was great. The temperature got down to the 60s so we put Wyatt in jeans.  Doesn't he look too grown up?

Monday, Wyatt and I made our first trip to a Disney park.  We visited Animal Kingdom because some friends were going to be there that day.  Wyatt had a great time (aka no melt downs), and he even got in a 45 minute nap in a rocking chair in the Baby Care Center.  I plan to go visit a few more of the parks before we move to our next location.  I was too busy chasing Wyatt and navigating the park to remember to take pictures, so all I have is a picture of his button.

Today, we pick up Hunter's mom from the airport!  We have a Trunk or Treat tomorrow with our MOMs club, and then we are making the trip to Sanibel, FL.  Biking, shelling, eating, and playing are all on the to do list.

I will probably continue to neglect the blog over the next week.   Gotta work, gotta visit, gotta travel.

This and That

I am running (barely) 20 miles a week.  I will give a real deal update at the end of this week since that will be one month on the new training plan.

I loved the movie Moneyball.

One more month until cooler weather in Florida...so I hear.

I am trying to figure out a Halloween costume for Wyatt that doesn't require a hat or anything complicated to put on a toddler.  On my list of possibilities I have...Rambo, Nerd (suspenders), Farmer (overalls), or just an orange jack o lantern shirt (boring).  Please help. I am the least creative person in the world and these kinda things are low priority for me.  Wyatt has some holiday disappointments in his future.

I made a truly spontaneous trip to the beach Monday and in order for it to count as spontaneous, I was not allowed to bring sunscreen or an extra change of clothes. I only had 25 cents which covered 20 minutes of parking in the meter at this beach.  I let Wyatt get a little sandier than planned so I struggled with sand removal back at the truck.  I opened my bottle of Lemon Perrier and poured it on Wyatt's hands.  Worst $0.75 wasted ever.  There was minimal sand removal and I was down half a drink.  I dusted him off with his onesie and we rode home mostly nekee in a sandy diaper.  I let him eat some Annie's bunnies on the trip home so we had nothing but smiles and sand in our teeth!

Food Funk

Loyal readers...I am in a food funk.  My cooking is uninspired, boring, untasty, and not even healthy for the past few weeks.  Please send recipes...fast.  Don't make me loop back through my Pinterest Tried and True Recipe list.  I won't do it.

I am willing to share my brilliant and inspiring toddler food ideas in exchange.  Deal?

  • Aidell's Chicken and Apple Sausage - Wyatt ate a whole link today for lunch. I was so impressed. And there is fruit in it.  I thinly slice and quarter.
  • Toast with 1/4 of an avocado smashed on it. Cut toast into appropriate sized pieces.
  •  Annie's Bunny Grahams or Cheddar Bunnies
  • Yogurt, banana, and miscellaneous fruit in blender with a touch of honey.
  • Baby caprese - mozzerella cheese cubes, cherry tomato slices, olive oil and a little salad vinegar.
On to other random life tidbits.
  • Wyatt had a  high fever (103.6 F) for exactly 24 hours last week and then all bettah.
  • Weaning is going well. I have cut out 2 of 4 nursing sessions and homeboy hasn't noticed.
  • Nobody told me that weaning would make me feel just like the first trimester of pregnancy.  Tired, hormonal, etc.  I was trying to figure out why I felt pathetic, and then the Internets told me I can blame weaning.  Thanks Internets.
  • I have been consistently following my heart monitor training plan for 1.5 weeks now.
  • I have been listening to the Tool channel on Pandora when I run. You may be thinking, how can you run to this channel?  Imagine running reallly slow...its more of a wogging..not even a jogging. This channel is perfect for that.

Time For Another Life Update

Wyatt has his 9 month Dr. appointment today..no shots!

Today is my first day of work, but I probably won't be able to login yet.  No VPN.  Guess I will enjoy my last day(s) of freedom.

Lisa and I are on day 4 of P90X, the lean version. Work it, work it.

Hunter made some amazing waffles this weekend.  We had them with this smoothie.

Hunter was feeling a little sickly so we had lots of soup and sandwich meals including our famous (to us) tortilla soup.

I got my haircut because I was having to fix it again...unacceptable!

Wyatt has managed to stay in the church nursery for two entire Sundays!  I guess separation anxiety has departed...for now.

I am now a board member of one of the Mom clubs I am in.  Not because I am cool...just because they are desperate.  Secretary right here!

That's all folks.  Happy Monday.
