When Your Belly Weighs More Than Your Dumbbells

I am just finishing up month 2 of 3 of my trial gym membership.  So far so good.  I got one of my friends (IT woman turned personal trainer) to create a pre natal workout plan for me because I would go to the gym and look at all the things I couldn't do instead of find things I could do.

She set me up with 4 different workouts.

1. An in gym full body workout.  I do 2 sets of 8 - 12 reps at about 1/3 of my usual weight and always wear my heart rate monitor.  Sometimes I laugh because I am holding my 5 lb dumbbells and it doesn't even counter balance the weight in my belly.

2. An at home full body workout.  I continue with the 2 sets of 8 - 12 reps.  I already have adjustable dumbbells, but I purchased this resistance band set for $30 and I love it.  It has a door hook and a ankle wrap connector and all comes in a nice little bag you can carry around.  This plan has a lot of variety so I am not stuck doing the same exercises every time.  I am fitting this workout in at nap time or after bed time.

3. A pool workout which I have not yet had the courage to try but want to.

4. A late in the pregnancy workout which I haven't needed yet but ask me in a few months!

I try to balance 2 or 3 workouts a week with some walking or biking around the hood and I make use of the treadmills and old lady bikes at the gym when I go.   Mom, I know you use those bikes and you are not an old lady, but that is what I will always call them.  P.S. I was really sore from using one of those old lady bikes last week for 20 minutes.  Work it, work it!

Anybody know when I won't be able to ride a bike anymore?  I guess my belly will tell me.

Random Updates

Baby Calleigh is doing great and is even able to eat.  Yay!

I swore I would never ever buy a maternity swimsuit, but after trying on about 5 different combos two weekends ago and not fitting in any of them (including some of Hunter's clothes), I went to the Target and bought one.  AND I love it.  I have already worn it twice and I have an upcoming beach vacay.

I made a chicken pot pie with homemade pie crust (super easy) but then I pulled a complete opposite and put a can of cream of chicken soup in it.  It was delish!  Bake the crust on the bottom. Cook 2 stalks of celery, 1 carrot, 1/4 cup of onion, 1 can cream of chicken, refill the can with milk, thyme, salt n pepper, and 1.5ish cups shredded cooked chicken in a big dish.  Pour into baked crust.  Put other crust on top.  Cut holes.  Bake for another 20ish minutes.

Hunter caught a big ol red fish so I am going to attempt Redfish on the Half Shell tomorrow for dinner inspired by this recipe.  I am guessing it will take close to an hour based on the size.  The last time I tried cooking a huge red fish it was ick.  This fish better be good!

I THINK I have come up with a solution for the "does baby #2 get her own room since we will probably move when she is still really little" debate.  The answer is no. Our room has a little reading nook.  I have been researching "nursery nooks" on pinterest and I think this is going to work for us.  I am going to try room dividing curtains for a tiny bit of soundproofing and light blocking.  I think I can fit a small crib or pack n play and a little dresser that will double as a changer in the nook.  I am hoping for a small glider or rocker too.  Maybe one or two cutesy wall decors.  Easy and hopefully this satisfies any potential nesting and moving alot conflicts.  My current color plan is dark pink and aqua.  Check out my board here to see my likes.

A Big Day for Calleigh

Tomorrow my niece is having surgery so that she can breathe like a healthy little baby girl.  We are praying for her.  Hoping the surgery is quick and everything goes perfectly.  Hoping her recovery is not painful.  Hoping she will only need one surgery. Hope and pray baby! I can't wait to see her take a big long deep breath through her nose and smile.  I can't wait to hold her either.

So let's talk about some more trivial things to take our mind off of Calleigh's big day.

1. I fear we will never be able to play outside again.  Mosquitoes are insane.  They swarm us even with bug spray on...especially on the face where I don't like to spray very much.

2. If you hear Wyatt walking around saying DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT he is really talking about the CABINET where we keep our tractors and cars in the kitchen.

3.  Lemon zest and bacon make summer vegetable pasta extra wonderful.   I used this recipe as inspiration but used angel hair instead of orzo and zucchini instead of broccoli.

4. I am a cloth diaper fan, but not necessarily a fanatic.  Sad news...I officially give up cloth diapering at night.  I use Bum Genius 4.0.  I have tried hemp inserts, fleece liners, and stripping the diapers after every wash.  For some reason, the bootie gets really irritated at night. This is a newish thing.  Wyatt never used to have a problem.  He has also started chugging alot of milk before going to bed.  Maybe that is the cause?  I feel a little guilty for not using my large stash of diapers 24x7 but what can you do.  I would wrap Wyatt's bootie in gold at night if it meant good sleep and red bootie avoidance.  Seriously...good sleep is priceless.

Flax Attack

I bought some milled flax seed for a baking recipe I tried this week.  I had a brilliant idea to throw it into our banana berry smoothie this morning.  Tasted delicious.  Wyatt sucked it up. Unfortunately, I did not pack enough diapers and wipes for our outings for the day.  Lesson learned.  No flax seed for toddler babies.

I also plan to try this recipe and this recipe.  I will avoid hemp and flax seed and I will stick with regular milk because I don't love almond milk enough to go through a whole one.

That is enough pseduo-healthy talk.  How about some of these recipes I can't wait to try?

Side note...we are still waiting on a surgery date for baby Calleigh.  She is doing great in the NICU.

Sweet Baby Calleigh

My sister had her baby...quite a bit early!  We knew she wouldn't make it to her due date based on the size of her baby belly.  Unfortunately, Calleigh had to go straight to the NICU.  She was not able to breathe through her nose.  After some tests, the doctors discovered that she had a condition called choanal atresia on both sides of her nose that prevents her from being able to breathe through her nose.  She was transferred to the big children's hospital NICU in the medical center as soon as they discovered the condition.

She is beautiful, she is stable as long as she is on the machines being monitored and has her mouth open, and she will most likely need surgery this week to correct the problem.  We are all waiting patiently for the doctors to put together their plan and make sure that Calleigh is strong enough to handle surgery.  Lots of praying and waiting this week.

Calleigh we can't wait to cuddle you!

A Few Belly Laughs

I like to sit with my belly hanging out.  NOTE: This is perfectly acceptable now that I am 19 weeks pregnant.  Wyatt pulled my shirt down and told me to "close lid".  Apparently I am grossing him out.

The first thing Hunter does when he goes in the garage is turn on the radio.  The last thing Hunter does when he leaves the garage is turn off the radio.  I have been lectured for turning it off while he is cleaning up.  I left Wyatt in the garage to fix us some drinks yesterday after a bike ride.  When I walked back in, he was sitting next to the radio jamming out.  Maybe not so funny to you but I couldn't stop laughing.

We went to the library to return our books.  The librarians thought Wyatt was all super cute putting his books in the book drop.  They were all "thank you" and "good job" and "so cute".  Wyatt took the praise and ran with it.  He started finding every book he could and putting it into the book return drop box.  There are way too many books in a library and I am not as fast as I should be.

Wyatt runs like Phoebe now.  His full of joyness causes his arms and legs to flail.  I wish I had a better video of him.

Tomatoes...It's Whats for Dinner

Tomatoes...one of my favoritest things in the whole world!  And we got a big ol bucket from Hunter's family.   Here are some of the recipes I love or plan to try in the next week or two off of my Pinterest board.  Do you have any I need to add?

Update...if you read this post in a feed reader, the Pinterest board does not show up. I am too lazy to figure out a way to make it work so you must click to view the whole post.
