Weekend Update

I had this weird 36 hour fever, achiness thing going starting on Friday.  Laura recommended that I try Starbucks Caramel Apple Spice drink and it might have done the trick.  Now I am stuck dreaming about that drink and wishing I could reinvent.  Sadly, I am not allowed to buy anything else from the store until after we move.

I got on Vine. My profile name is FunFiveMinutesAgo.  Here is one of my vine's from this weekend.  Not sure if I will stick with it or not, but fun for now.

In between dinner time, bath time, cleanup time, bed time, and power outage, I watched a tiny bit of the super-ma-bowl.  We made caprese lasagna rollups according to this recipe. Super good.  Super easy.  Not super-ma-bowly, but who super cares!?

Obviously not my picture. Borrowed from Cooking Classy so you will go try that recipe

Hunter made a lemon meringue pie using America's Test Kitchen's recipe. Husband points up!  Citrus remaining in house down!
Our image, can you tell? ;)

I made another round of spicy grapefruit margaritas.

We cleaned ceiling fans, baseboards, and painted some dump truck worn / blue block scribbled places of the wall.  We even scrubbed the rubber stroller wheel markings off of the front door.  Only one weekend left in our place.

What To Do This Week

Enjoy Starbucks Frappuccino Happy Hour 3:00-5:00 until the 13th.  I am not really a fan of Starbucks or coffee, but I am a fan of half price and I like the fru fru fraps.

Stop by your local thrift store. I am now on my second trip to the one here.  I have purchased several items that still have the tag on.  Thanks to some of the blogs I follow, I can attempt to update my mom-iform.  I bought some tangerine shorts that I am sure came out when tangerine wasn't cool.  This week..going to learn how to wear them.  Polyvore says...

Finish Cinco de Mayo leftovers.  Didn't make enough to have leftovers?  Start over.  Try this or this or this

We had a lovely weekend.  Last softball game tonight, blueberry pickin Thursday, heading to Texas Saturday.  Yeeee hawwww!

Prouds and Sorries

Weekend update in lame iterative software development terminology from big company I used to work for.
***This post title is dedicated to Laura...and to whatever that penguins name is.  Chuckles maybe?

Prouds:
6 year wedding anniversary
Went to a local brewery Saturday night with some friends
Wyatt sleeping through the night Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
A 3rd tooth for Wyatt (see sorry below)
A babysitter lined up to enjoy our first dinner out without a child (see sorry below)
Hunter caught lots of fishies on Saturday

Sorries:
Chigger bites from my stroll
Sick baby on Sunday - snotty, coughing, sneezing, low fever, non sleeping.  Maybe teething?
No dinner out - don't want to spread cooties to babysitter's family
I ate an excessive amount of brownies

Today's agenda:
Wipe Wyatt's nose, rocking chair therapy, finish 3rd girl with dragon tattoo book, maybe brave the grocery store?

It's Almost May?!

I can't believe how fast April is passing us by.

We had a busy weekend for parents of small child.  We drove to the big bad city of Orlando Friday night to have dinner with some friends from San Antonio.  Wyatt was a perfect angel.  Whew!

Saturday was supposed to be the best fishing day of the year, but there was a 100% chance of rain so Hunter passed it up.  He watched Wyatt while I went to check out the Hunger Games movie.  I thought they did a great job on the movie, but read the book.  As always, the book is better.  I am a little jealous that Wyatt took a 2+ hour nap when Hunter was watching him because he hasn't done that for me in ages.  Hunter is a little angry at the weathermen because it rained not a drop all day.  We also went to Wal Mart that evening for a few things (aka $100).

Sunday we went back to the church that we tried last week and put Wyatt in the nursery.  We got paged early.  He was upset the whole time...doing the weird breathy thing he does when he gets so upset he can't calm down.  He shouldn't have been hungry or tired.  Maybe he just missed his momma?  Got overwhelmed? Not sure.  We will try again next week and if that fails, I can go sit in the "Cry Room".  Fun fun.  We finished off our Sunday with a quick trip to the beach and a disappointing dinner.  Not all of your recipes can be winners I guess.

Even though it is only April, you can start your Christmas shopping now.  Check out what we found at the surf shop.  Red solo cup wine glasses by Kountry Krystal.  They also have a Mason Jar version.  Chuckle.

Weekend Update

Get ready for the most exciting post ev-er.  This weekend we cleaned, laundried, and groceried. I cooked this Shrimp Etouffee. A real cajun would probably scoff at the recipe, but it was simple and good.  We tripled the spice requirements (of course).  Hunter washed trucks, changed oil, and got in a round of golf.

A few more random thoughts.

I ordered a CJ's Butter sample pack since I was almost out of cloth diaper safe cream.  The smells are awesome.  I could hardly narrow it down to 8.  Mamas you need this for your hands.  Bebes you need this for your booty.  I think my favorite is the blueberry crumble or the ginger lime.  Even if you don't cloth diaper, help yo'self.

We got the courage to try putting Wyatt in a church nursery and tried out a new church.  They said he did great.  When we picked him up he stuck out his pouty lip suddenly realizing we had abandoned him for over an hour.

Our standing instead of napping is getting much better but still could use some work.

Every day when I lay Wyatt's toys out he looks at me like "these again Mom?".  Made me wonder what people did in the good ol days for baby toys.  They probably played with grass, rocks, sticks, and rags.  They probably had to play a lot of patty cake with mom or be entertained by big sis or bro.  Maybe some home made dolls?  Little things like that do work.  I am currently booping Wyatt on the head with his jammies so I can type this.  He loves it!  I am glad I live in a time of toys though.  I also don't imagine Mom being able to spend all day entertaining her baby.  If Mom didn't work hard a family might not eat.  Did the baby get backpacked around?  Did the baby learn to be happy with lots of alone time?  Was one mom or big sister assigned baby duty so the rest of the moms could do their work?

Random thoughts by Janet.  I hope your Monday turns into Tuesday realll quick like.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day from sunny Florida!  We celebrated the weekend by going to Lowes and going to softball practice.  BIG weekend folks...  BIG weekend.  Hunter worked on making the perfect espresso and Janet made homemade peas, carrots, sweet taters, and squash baby food style.  It really is the easiest peasiest to make and now I have a month supply in the freezer.  Here is a family pic and a Wyatt pic for your viewing pleasure.

We all wore our green
Nom nom, sweet taters

Yes I Am a Computer Gal, No I Won't Have a Cooler Blog

It is time to address this topic.  I am using the simple template from blogger.  I have not done very many customizations at all.  I even left the default blue color.

Yes, I worked in IT for 8 years.  Yes, I have a a degree in computers.

Here is the key.  I don't do pretty.  I do functional.  Blogger already created all the functionality I need (for now) so I am just going to continue using the boring, simple, easy-cheesy templates.  I am working on a banner image.  When I finish that, I may stop there or I may keep going.  It all depends on Wyatt and if he continues with 45 minute naps.  I will beat the 45 minute intruder (separate post coming soon).

Now that I got that out of the way (my guilt was consuming me), here are some of the weekend highlights.

  • Found a yummy Cuban restaurant this weekend. This inspired Hunter to make some Cafe Cubanos at home.
  •  Upgraded from the Moby Wrap (I loved) to the Ergo Baby Carrier (I love). It was time for a carrier that could be used like a backpack and also in the front.  Hurrah!
  • Survived a 2 hour softball practice in beautiful weather.  One of the sweet wifeys watched Wyatt the whole time so I could play.  We have our first game tonight.  Go Team Zachry!
  • Created a safe space for Wyatt.  Mutli-tasking is hard when your child can move around.  We will do some better baby-proofing in the future.
  • Bought all of the baby beach essentials from Babies R Us (rash guard, sunglasses, beach hat, baby sunscreen).

I think I overused parenthesis in this post (don't you?).

Weekend Updates

I know all of you are anxiously awaiting an update from the playdate / interview / social club meet up.  For just $20 a year, I can buy some friends! The playground meet up was a success.  There are plenty of other moms with small children that are as des per ate as me to get out of the house and interact with other adults. There were about 4 of us with kids under 1 year, and we all watched the moms with big kids and established play groups in awe. I am now a member of the International MOMS Club...they have an <sarcasm>awesome website </sarcasm>. Social events start next week.  I better stock up on deodorant.

Other weekend excitement:
  • Hunter fixed the water pump on my truck so I can now make exciting trips to the trash dump, recycle bins, or even Target if I get crazy.
  • We got Wyatt's room fixed up and all of the wall decorations up.
  • We got my desk set up in the office / gym / guest bedroom.
  • We tried a new grocery store,  Winn-Dixie, since the Publix seem very expensive.  They were a little cheaper, but did not have a great selection.
